The King Charles offers a varied and exciting menu, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients from the finest Hampshire farms and food producers. Including Lainston House Estate game, and award-winning Alresford pies and sausages.

We offer cask conditioned ales, Fair Trade and New World wines in a warm and inviting atmosphere. Boasting one of the best kept and largest Beer Gardens in Winchester, a secure childrens play area, ample parking and Petanque Piste, the King Charles has to be worth a visit...

Our Ethos

The King Charles has been evolving since it re-opened in May 2010, working with a few key ingredients... Our emphasis is on producing Wholesome food from Wholesome ingredients and we take great pride in making all of our dishes by hand and on the premises. Our ingredients are locally sourced where possible and from sustainable sources that enure our carbon footprint is as small as can be. Our menu is concise and simple, giving you a selection of simple fresh flavours and uncomplicated dishes that under pins any good pub menu. But at the heart of it all we are still a good old fashioned pub, a relaxed atmosphere blended with great dining that can be difficult to find these days.

Kids under 8 eat FREE Tuesday - Saturday 12 - 2pm and 5 - 7 pm and Sundays 12 - 4 pm at The King Charles. One meal from our Children's menu free with any main meal from our restaurant menu! (offer cannot be used in conjunction with the early bird discount)

Winter Opening Hours

We are now back to winter opening hours, please see full details below. But remain open all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Food Service now starts from 5pm Tuesday - Saturday - ideal for bringing your children along to enjoy the climbing frame and an early supper from our Children's Menu, food served 12pm until 4pm Sundays (roasts served until we run out!)

Monday 5pm - 11pm and Tuesday - Sunday 12 noon - 3pm and 5 - 11pm

Food service

Tuesday to Saturday 12pm - 2pm and 5pm - 8.30pm.
Sunday roast 12pm - 4pm
No food service on Mondays - but the bar is open from 5pm for drinks and our bi-weekly music jam sessions - Blues and Rock the first Monday of the Month and Jazz on the fourth Monday!
